The cirt project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and Business Link Leicestershire.

The ERDF aims to stimulate economic development in the least prosperous regions of the European Union.  These regions are ranked according to their need, and cirt is restricted to only work with individuals and companies who are based in these areas, known as ‘objective 2’.

Objective 2 status was given to wards facing difficulties economically, socially and structurally. The ERDF invests funds into projects offering substantial benefits to Objective 2 wards to help tackle these problems.
